Listening is a Part of Learning for an ESL Student

Many students think that they can learn by reading their textbooks or studying, and tendesl curriculum not to treat listening as an important way of understanding English. For an ESL student, listening in high school or college classes is extremely important. Classroom activities are an effective way of providing students with many opportunities to listen and to speak.

esl curriculumUnfortunately – if listening skills are not fine tuned while students are in class, they will not fare well in business, as listening is a key component of being successful. A good listener doesn’t miss the nuances of things implied or important points referenced that can easily be a key factor later on when dealing with a business transaction.

 

Listening skills can be improved by using online sources that will improve English understanding.  With a variety of modules that are often free of charge, students can learn about topics about what to eat, favorite pets,  other cultures or sports. All these can all be accessed, and can become a learning tool about an interesting topic  that will  improve the students listening skills.
 
There are also curriculum programs that have native English speakers.
These are presented with the text, interactive conversations and colorful pictures. Some include vocabulary translations for Spanish students or Chinese students.
 

Good listening techniques will be important for anyone’s future ability to communicate effectively with friends,  lovers or business associates. They will make it easier to carry on conversations both in business and pleasure. Oftentimes mistakes are made or the wrong answer is given because we were not listening to what a person was saying or have misunderstood a question – thereby making the answer or response the wrong one. Practice with everyone you meet – listen and participate!
